The Eternal Now of Lynn Johnston.

One of the more puzzling things about Lynn is the fact that she seems almost outraged when people point out that she contradicts herself on a regular basis. Granted, she covers it up with some pseudocomic flailings of limbs and mildly jocose pleas for sympathy but it does seem to infuriate her when someone comes along and says "You said one thing about a particular subject in the past but you're saying something that contradicts it right now." It seems to forworse that this might be a sign that Lynn cannot see that what she said in the past matters; while it's true that she can remember every slight, she cannot seem to remember that people have the baffling-to-her and inconvenient habit of thinking something that just doesn't make any sense to her about how what she said in the past means something. To her, the only important thing is what she says and believes now and to expect that which came before to matter is incomprehensible to her. This would be only a minor inconvenience to her if she were simply an ordinary person living an ordinary life; after all, a real Elly Patterson only has very little credibility to lose. A public figure like Lynn however can't really survive too much more revelations that she can't be trusted to tell the truth without her fans all deserting her.......like I did.
