Missed Opportunities: A Strip that Could have Been.....

It occurs to me from time to time that Lynn has definite problems imagining things not in her immediate day-to-day experience. When a strip is about something she's going through right now, it rings true on a lot of levels. Sadly, though, she tries to stretch out of her comfort zone too often and the result is the daily mess we see in front of us. Part of the problem is her reliance on a fixed set of characters. Having read her early non-Patterson material, I sometimes think she'd've been better off drawing a daily comic panel about VARIOUS people undergoing the absurdities of day-to-day life and relegating the Patterson family's adventures to Sundays. That way, she could age the characters in both formats and spare heself and others the cheap theatrics and ho-hum fantasies she calls drama.
