Perception failure and its effect on Patterlife.

As we know, Elly spends quite a bit of time being upset with John because she thinks that all people remember of her party was him on the floor drunk off his ass. While eventually "forgiving" him for it because sticking to her guns is too damned much like hard work, she's still convinced of this even to this day; I should think that the reason that she never threw or went to too many parties afterward was not only due to the fear that he'd get bombed and embarrass her all over again but to the equal fear that that would be the only reason people would come to their home.

The problem is, of course, that nobody actually seems to have remembered how blitzed he got that day; this is because what Elly thinks people think of her and her family and what they actually do are two entirely different things. My guess is that people are more likely to remember that all the catering came out of a can than they are what John was doing. It's a lot like how she stood there in her driveway holding an ice scraper bellowing NO at John because he wanted to solve her problems for her instead of helping her stand around bellowing about how powerless she is; she thinks that she's not being taken seriously and John thinks that she's making life hard on herself on purpose.
