Jim WHO??? or 'There are worse things than dying alone.'

I just realized something unpleasant while bearing witness to the sweet, sweet follies the Pattersons waste their days on: we have NOT seen Jim Richards for quite some time. The last we heard of him, Iris was planning to put him in some sort of glorified day care centre while she took a break from the arduous task of misinterpreting his oh-so-obvious commands. This raises a disturbing prospect in my mind: Jim dying in the company of oblivious strangers. That, to me, is worse than dying alone. At least if he were by himself, he could imagine the people he cared about were with him in spirit but to be surrounded by people, no matter how well-meaning they are, think of him as just another senior would drive home how isolated he really was. The worst thing of all is the inevitable reaction from his 'caring' family: remorse that came far too late to do any good.
