The ones left behind....

As we know, Lynn eventually convinced her family to move from Lynn Lake to a suburb of North Bay, Ontario so that she could be close enough to civilization to be able to shop with the anonymity she craves but far enough away so that she doesn't expose herself to baffling, scary and evil diversity. It seems to me that Connie's departure from Milborough is pretty much Lynn's take on the mass exodus. The reason I say this is because she has the Pattersons behave as if the Sun were dying merely because a hysterical jerk ran away from home after she and her insignificant other broke up again. You would have thought that Elly would never have been able to find another woman to talk smack about Annie with or that Mike would never have been able to find another bad friend to convince him to do stupid things to hear them talk. The general idea was that as nervous as Connie and Lawrence were about the new phase in their lives, the Pattersons hurt more because they were going to be lost without them. It seems to me that what we're dealing with is Lynn's clear belief that the people of Lynn Lake would be a lot more upset about her leaving than she ever could have been.
