“They Like BLANK Best”….

To expand on what would happen if John’s need to lose his shit and tyrannize his family because he no longer gets his own way all the time any more were to no longer be a factor in Elly’s daily life, it would have the salutary effect of her not having any free-floating hostility on the living oars John rams into her belly. She’d finally be able to see that a lot of the things she believes about parenting and her children are counter-productive and designed to mostly add to her misery. First off, she’d be able to rid herself of the ludicrous belief that since she cannot guarantee that her children will not always get along perfectly, she should do nothing at all to nip rivalry in the bud. Her alternating between accepting the toxic need the two of them have to determine once and for all which of them she likes best and lecturing about how they should get along so that other people don’t judge her harshly is of a piece with her ignoring the issue of childproofing because it’s not a guarantee of safety in that it’s a stupid way to live her life that she blindly accepts because she wants to prove herself to idiots who don’t have her best interests at heart. Were John to vanish, not only would the anger everyone else feels because he’s too squishy inside to deal with life’s reverses abate to the point that Mike and Lizzie don’t want to kill one another, the need to be in each other’s faces would go away too.
