On Lilliput's and luddites....

As we know, Elly had a fairly rocky job search after she was let go from the library. We might have had to deal with months of Lynn complaining about evil, conflict-causing HR people and their evil procedures that keep qualified people from getting good jobs had not Elly lucked into her dream job pretending to be a book-store employee which she parlayed into her dream of pretending to be a shopkeeper. Given that today's retail environment relies on computerized records instead of the precious, precious paper that Elly and Lynn can hold in their hands, this was a golden opportunity for our fearful boomer moron to spread and reinforce the techno-hysteria that informs most of what we used to call Kool-Aid Nation before the prospect of stripping themselves naked because Zuckerberg said to caused them to abandon the worship of Foobery. The problem is that in the process, she reminds us of why Lynn failed her pilot's exam twice. Most of Elly's problem with machinery is, as I've said before, the direct result of her lack of anything resembling patience and her dislike of anything she isn't instantly good at. She might dress that up with the sort of fear that Big Brother is using the Evil, Scary Interweb to police our thoughts that make people fear Facebook but it's really a symptom of the same mental failing that made her look at a column of the 'baffling' little symbols evil, conflict-causing math teachers used to use so they could trip her up and embarrass her and mutter "Aw, [BOXCAR] it! I quit!" After all, you can't accuse a woman who likes to listen in on conversations and whose complaint with security monitors is that they make her work harder to care about privacy. What she worries about is looking like she can't keep up. Too bad that her recommended solution is to hobble everyone else.
