All the humiliation she could ever want: Therese's divorce.

Today's strip explains to us what Therese's big ass crime against the laws of God and Man really was: she decided for herself how she should live her life instead of living for Other People's Expectations. Not only did she have Creepthony's ideas of the just and proper to contend with, her parents piled on the pressure to conform to the norm as well. You had Papa going "Without a house, you're a nobody" while Mama was bleating she'd be a nobody if she didn't have a bunch of rug-monkeys she didn't want any more than she wanted to live in the suburban box of her father's desires. Not only that, there was the baleful presence of the Old Flame who, as far as she could see, couldn't wait to hop in and take her place. For some strange reason, the Pattersons of the world seem to believe that escaping an intolerable situation like Therese did is an unforgivable sin. It's far better to be ground down under the weight of other people's hopes and stand around in a driveway, holding an ice-scraper and throwing a temper tantrum. What bothers me most about this is that Anthony got everything and Therese is still the villain of the piece. I'd go so far as to say that her parents were in his corner because she wouldn't live her life to suit them. The only thing she got away with here was the tattered remnants of her dignity and the scrawny little piece of shit begrudged her that.
