Foobery leads to Oblivious Self-Absorption.

To continue with the exercise in beating a dead horse I call my look at how John and Elly's delinquency as parent led to Mike being the big douchebag he is now, we'll take a look at his day-to-day behavior. Since he thought his parents were faking loving him because he was an idiot, he'd sort of gone on strike until they addressed the issue that bothered him: to put it bluntly, he wasn't gonna play nice until they admitted having Liz was a mistake. When he wasn't tormenting the child in a misguided effort to make her go away and restore the happy family he used to have, he stood there with a sullen glower on his face. He was the sort of child who behaved as if performing the simplest task was an intolerable burden. When finally prodded into action, Elly got a face full of "Oh, all RIGHT!!", as if he were doing her a favor by doing something he was supposed to. Like I said, if they'd bothered to include him in the process and nip this in the bud, he wouldn't be spending the rest of his life trying to deny being an ass. His kid sister, who got lost in the shuffle because of his antics, would have had a clearer idea who she is and have a happier life as well.

There's another huge difference between Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes; Watterson never really went in for licensing the crap out of his characters…
