Elly's road trip and its discontents....

The interesting thing about the immediate future is not that John finally gets that cast off of his foot just in time for an early thaw to make his skis useless. The interesting thing is that we're a few weeks away from Elly being volunteered to attend a conference in Winnipeg. While having a soccer mom take a few weeks off to further her career might seem somewhat prosaic and non-controversial to those of us living in this, the second decade of the twenty-first century, I know for a fact that most of Lynn's kind see this as a rather daring thing for Elly to do.

The reason I say this is that we lead off with Mike whining like the little bitch he is about how unfair and cruel Mom is by telling him a scary, crazy fib about how life ain't television and no, she ain't s'pos'ta smile an'smile as she waits on a bone-idle little jackass twenty-four-God-damned-seven and towards the end have two typical evil, conflict-causing, woman-hating MEN express disgust that some weakling has failed to keep his wifey in the kitchen where she belongs. Given that Elly feels conflicted about defying society, we thus have to endure someone having her cake and eating it too. Not only does Lynn get to slam all men everywhere for being heartless brutes pre-programmed to think of women as slaves, she gets to say that leaving the family to shift for itself makes one a failure as a wife and mother.
