Dueling Connie Poiriers

One of the interesting things that we see in the current arc is that we're dealing with the Connie that existed before Lynn and Beth decided that they needed to make her the victim of an evil patriarch living in priest-ridden Quebec and Lawrence the son of some fantasy projection who would die in the cold, cold North and so on and so forth. Back in the eighties, Connie's family were akin to Warren 'Unfrozen Caveman Chopper Pilot' Blackwood in that they were a family of Franco-Ontarians who'd lived in Milborough for generations. Every so often, you'd get a reminder that her folks lived an hour's drive away or that she'd grown up to the sights and sounds of people draining the wetlands near the Shannon river to put up the sort of split-level she lives in how. Also, back in 1985, she'd made a point of making sure that Lawrence changed his last name from Landry to Poirier since she wanted to have no reminders of her failed marriage to her college sweetheart Pete. What bothers me is, as I've said before, they'd changed her backstory for a frivilous and useless reason; she was perfectly fine as the daughter of a Milborough mainstay who wanted a son to inherit the family farm and Lawrence was just as fine as Pete's son. A perfectly good back-story got thrown in the trash so one person could have a soap opera and another person could remind us that she has no idea what goes on in Quebec.
