On keeping his maiden name.

The very interesting part of all of Lynn's wanting to show us how she thinks that a blended family should work is not that Greg tossed Connie under the bus or that she wailed about wild animals or even that Greg became something of a non-factor after he admitted that he had no right to question Lawrence because he wasn't really part of his life. The very interesting thing is that unlike Aaron, Lawrence chose not to be adopted by Greg but instead wanted to keep his mother's name. What this tells us is that Lynn might have not actually thought it an especially good thing that Rod did so and wished to show us that a blended family should somehow allow for the past to be acknowledged.

In doing so, she is following a rather common pattern seen in today's world. The tradition can be best summarized as "First marriage, take his name, second, keep yours." What this means is that Lynn is possibly still somewhat angered that she got talked into becoming Lynn Johnston when she would possibly have liked to be Lynn Ridgway again. What she doesn't quite seem to realize is that there's nothing actually stopping her from doing so if she took a mind to.
