Liz Patterson: Natural Born Follower

In our haste to condemn Mike Patterson for his brattiness, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that at the very least, he's an original thinker. One of the most common speeches parents give their children is 'If your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?' He rarely got that speech because he was the one convincing them to jump. Liz, on the other hand, got that a lot. Many is the time that she, in her passive, immature, whiny way, played follow the leader and gotten into trouble as a result. Whether it was picking up smoking or what have you, her willingness to please the wrong people made her youth a mess. It's also why Elly decided to put her in charge of babysitting April. Tending a small child, SheetShaver thought, would teach Liz some responsibility. Wrong. All it did was make her resent her kid sister for 'stealing her youth'. As infernal a nuisance as Mike was as a child, he can't, despite what I've said before, shoulder all the blame for her clingy brattiness. She would have been a needy, wailing, maudlin basket case if he was a Canadian take on Linus Van Pelt.
