- Deanna gets Mike to quit his job and work out of the Pattermanse so she can keep him from travelling the world with Weed and thus get funny ideas about leaving her. (The fact that he thinks marriage is a mistake he'll never make again is neither here nor there; Dee's fears that he'd have the initiative to stray aren't rational.)
- Iris gets free sympathy for her devoted service to a sick man even though by all objective standards it's undeserved.
- Elly receives a huge kickback from John as a prelude to his buying something he wants.
The only person he saw as not getting anything out of serfdom to a Foob was Anthony. Whatever indignities he'll endure will be done so without any material or all that much pyschological compensation. I can imagine his future as one long humiliation as his daughter walks all over him and his child-bride only does anything when she's personally inconvenienced. The best course of action for him would be to grow a backbone, take his kid and leave town for good. Once in a new setting, he might have the confidence to be a father to his child instead of a friend.
